Highlight of Classic Car Cruises in Germany: 5. Freiburg Schauinsland Klassik, 23.-26. July 2009
The 1957 Porsche 356 A Speedster did not quite succeed. It is towed by a servicetruck into the historic town of Wolfach, Black Forest, Southern Germany. "It was bad luck", tells the owner, "but it was a wonderful trip. The damage is not very serious, but we need to lift it up." Part of the classic car cruise is the famous race track (now State Road 124) up to the summit of the Schauinsland, the mountain near the city of Freiburg. The construction started in 1893 as a service road for the lumber industry. 12 Kilometers length, 173 different curves and 800 meters altitude difference made it perfect for the races up the hill. The races (called "Bergrekord") started in 1925 and were given up in 1988 due to environmental issues. On the 5th Classic Car Cruise you can watch several Ferrari sportcars humming uphill. However, the bleachers' applause is given to the splendid selection of real oldtimer jewels which represent about 80 years of basically European car technology. But even a 1967 Ford Thunderbird , several Corvettes and a 1967 Pontiac GTO can be seen, heard - and smelled - in action.
For further information please visit the homepage of the organizer. It is in German only.
